Teach w/ “Bling” the Film and “A Long Way Gone” the Novel by Ishmael Baeh


Either teach the film first to hook students into the content or afterwards as a “reward” for pushing through the challenging text.  (You may be in a school who is not film friendly, sorry!  Show ’em a lesson plan.)  Maybe start with an Activator Guide to assess what students know and don’t know about the topic/the theme.  There will likely be large gaps in context.  So this film, Bling, does a great job of filling in the blanks and providing some hooks for you to “hang-on” the new learning.  A Long Way Gone is also on Audible for those of you who need to differentiate instruction.  Students will love these two as a pair and learn a lot too.
